The Roaster’s Note

For me, Honoré de Balzac was the very first coffee connoisseur in the world. His passion — some might say obsession — led him to invent his own brewing rituals, designed to free his mind and stimulate creativity. Without his coffee, La Comédie Humaine, one of the greatest works of French literature, might never have come into existence.

Born from a ritual both austere and passionate — cup after cup, served in fine Limoges porcelain, on an empty stomach — Balzac himself described the effects of coffee as follows:

"Ideas march like battalions… the artillery of logic thunders… the pages fill with ink."

We have revived his famous brew, faithfully following his original recipe, while carefully selecting the beans, refining the roasting, and adjusting the grind. True to Balzac’s method, the beans are split rather than ground, delivering a richer, more aromatic cup — exactly as it was prepared in his time.

Each cup is a celebration of literary tradition, French craftsmanship, and sensory excellence — a coffee for those who seek not only to drink but to create.

The recipe is secret, the result of extensive roasting research.
