The Story of APK – Between Colombian Roots and Tanzanian Soul
This particular coffee is named “Tumaini”, which means “Hope” in Kiswahili — a powerful symbol of renewal and vitality.
Located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Africa Plantation Kilimanjaro (APK) encompasses seven farms.
It operates under long-term land leases granted by six local rural cooperatives, who own the land and provide most of the region’s workforce.
Across 1,347 hectares, APK primarily grows Arabica coffee, alongside maize (imported varieties for food security and nutrition), green beans, sun hemp, and sunflowers. A significant portion of the estate is dedicated to natural forest and production infrastructure, preserving biodiversity.
Through regenerative agriculture, the plantation combines perennial crops (Arabica coffee) with short-term nutritious crops, which allows for:
-
soil stabilization,
-
water regulation,
-
enhanced biodiversity,
-
optimized land use,
-
and sustainable employment for local communities.
